NOTE:  Dates after 1925 will not be posted here
unless the individual is deceased.

p. 343 --
Another obituary for Elisha Hardigree was located by David Gode in the Weekly Banner-Watchman, 12 Feb
1889, page 4, an Athens, GA newspaper.  This link will take you to the newspaper's page.
        "JUG TAVERN.
Mr. Elisha Hardegree died last Saturday night, and was buried Sunday.  He was an old and respected
citizen of Jackson county, and his death was a severe loss to the community in which he lived.  His daughter
Mrs. J. W. Lyle, of this place, has been constantly at his bedside for a week."

p. 344 --
2.  James W. Hardigree (b. 1839) did not die in Richmond, VA in June 1862 as listed in the book.  The following
information is correct.  James W. Hardigree enlisted on 20 August 1861 as J. J. Hardigne, a private, in
Co. F 3rd GA Regiment of the 2nd State Line which included Stapleton's and Storey's 3rd GA Infantry.
He was 22 years old at the time of his enlistment.  He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 5 July 1863 and
was a Prisoner of War when he died of measles on 13 September 1863 at Fort Delaware, DE.  The
information on John S. Hardigree, James' brother, in the book was incorrectly linked to John, when it
should be for James.  There are a few sources, one being "Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia,"
with the military information linked to the wrong brothers.  James W. Hardigree is listed on FindAGrave.com
and his number identification is #2536640.
5.  John S. Hardigree (b. 1844) did not die on 13 September 1863 at Fort Delaware, DE.  The correct information
is that he was the J. S. Hardigree who was killed in action at Camp Advance on 20 June 1862.  He was a
private in Co. L of the 2nd State Line which included Stapleton's and Storey's 3rd GA Infantry.  It is likely
that he was the one, not his brother James, who was mistaken for an enemy while on picket duty and
killed by a member of Company F according to family history.

[NOTE by Nova A. Lemons, 25 February 2012:  Elmer Joe Hardegree was the reason why I fell in love with the Hardegree family history.  He was the one who encouraged me with his findings, comments, and historical information that he so generously shared.  He also selflessly encouraged me, not caring if he got credited for his help or not, when I did the first and second versions of the Hardegree / Hardigree family history books, both of which are dedicated to him.  Even after the last version was published, he continued to forward obituaries and more information so that our family history would be kept updated.  I already miss him a great deal and his letters.  He was full of life, leaving a lot of wonderful memories behind for the rest of us to cherish.  God bless you, Joe Hardegree!  This page and website is dedicated in memory and honor of you.]
